Connecting Video Camera to My Laptop?
Hi. I need to connect my video camera to my laptop. The video camera is a Sony Handy cam, DCR-HC14E digital video camera. I dont own a firwire port on my laptop. My laptop is an acer aspire 5670. Its good USB ports, but no firewire port.Anyone competent to let me know what sort of cable I want? All I want to be able to do is to copy tape to dvd. I'm going to use windows movie initiator as I dont want to do anything fancy, just a similar to for like copy next to no editing.All help greatly appreciated!

- Hi within. =)FIREWIRE::Your Acer Aspire 5670 _should have_ a SMALL Firewire port on the near failure of the right edge (closer to you than the PCMCIA card slot).The Aspire's port is the small style, but should be DIRECTLY compatible near the Firewire output from the Sony DCR-HC14E.This is a pic of the SMALL and LARGE Firewire connectors (cable-ends) side-by-side:[ http://www.digit-photo.com/hama_cable_fi... ]This should help you to integer out what sort of cable you might need, if you indeed stipulation to buy an additional cable.Alternatively...S-VIDEO::Along the rear edge, in the region of 1/3rd from the right, you may have a wan S-Video IN, and your Sony cam has an S-Video output. You should be able to grasp a fire wire adapter at PC World no problem. That means of access you can use the USB ports.
Use the USB cable that came beside the camera, but you'll need to install the disc. However I found a pic a little uneven this way, the easiest approach is to play the camera into a PVR then drop this to DVD. Finally, you can buy a firewire card and plug it onto the PC relatively efficiently. Just don't buy it from the camera shop as they are expensive!
